United Community Action is a not for profit organisation which was established in 2007 for the local and BME community. It has been running succesfully for the last 5 years and during its time has expanded into a flourishing organisation in Sunderland that caters for the needs of the local and the BME community in order to try and build a solid foundation for the community as a whole and to improve its wellbeing and sustainability.
United Community Action (UCA) provides a targeted yet flexible service to members of Black Minority Ethnic communities in the City of Sunderland, especially to refugees and asylum seekers who face particular issues and disadvantages. UCA assist individuals and families to settle in the city when they are dispersed via the Home Office. We encourage them to become individuals who are part of a local community and enable then to improve their quality of life and to move forward. This may be by helping them into training/education or supporting them into gaining employment, or simply by providing friendship and support which reduces their isolation and gives them a place where they become visible within their local community and real individuals. At UCA they are not merely a ‘case’ or a ‘client’ but a person who matters.
